Convert between Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin

About Temperature Conversion

Temperature is a measure of thermal energy and is expressed using three main scales: Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin. Celsius (°C) is used by most of the world for everyday temperature measurements, Fahrenheit (°F) is primarily used in the United States, and Kelvin (K) is the SI base unit used in scientific contexts.

Unlike most unit conversions which use simple multiplication factors, temperature conversions require specific formulas. To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply by 9/5 and add 32. To convert Celsius to Kelvin, add 273.15. These non-linear relationships make temperature a special case in unit conversion.

Key reference points include: water freezes at 0°C (32°F, 273.15K) and boils at 100°C (212°F, 373.15K). Absolute zero, the lowest possible temperature, is 0K (-273.15°C, -459.67°F).
